Thought this whole hostel hack was overrated but saved me $30

I always rolled my eyes at the tip about packing a sleep mask and earplugs for hostels. Last month in Bangkok I forgot my normal gear and bought a cheap Manta mask and foam earplugs at a 7-Eleven for like $8. First night I slept through three people coming in drunk at 2am and a rooster at 5am. Has anyone else found a hostel must-have they initially blew off?

Manta masks are good but you overpaid, they're like 5 bucks at most corner stores.

Nah wait lmao @grantw32 you're tripping if you think those $5 corner store masks are the same quality lol. The ones I grabbed at the boutique shop have way better seals and don't fog up my glasses, plus the straps don't snap after a week. I've bought the cheap ones before and they literally fell apart in the wash after two cycles. You get what you pay for in this case, five bucks might get you through a day but not through a whole season.
