Used a hostel kitchen at 2am in Barcelona to cook my own paella

Saved about 15 euros by buying ingredients at the market instead of going to a tourist restaurant, but the hostel guests kept coming down to see what smelled so good. Anybody else cook their own meals in hostels to dodge the restaurant prices?

Made my paella at 3am once and the smoke detector joined us for dinner.

Wait you cooked paella in a HOSTEL kitchen at 2 AM?! That is insane! I can barely find a clean pot in most hostel kitchens during the day, let alone after midnight when everyone is hungover or asleep. And paella too, that's like a legit dish with all the rice and saffron and stuff. I bet the whole floor smelled amazing but also I'd be terrified of setting off the smoke alarm with that giant pan. How did the hostel staff not lose their minds when they saw you using the burners at that hour?
