Appreciation post: My freezer stash of homemade soup is a game changer... but is it really saving money?
I started making big batches of vegetable soup and freezing portions... it feels like a win because I skip takeout on busy nights. But my friend says all the containers and freezer bags add up in cost... and that I'm just moving money around. On one hand, I save by using cheap veggies and avoiding last-minute food orders. On the other hand, she might be right about the extra stuff I buy to store it all. Like last week, I spent $10 on containers but the soup itself only cost $5 to make. So did I actually come out ahead? Curious how others figure this out for their own budgets.

Wait, you spent double on containers than the soup?!

Nah, you've got the numbers wrong. The soup was only $8, but the containers were $16 for a pack of ten. They're STURDY ones meant for freezing, so they cost more upfront. Really makes sense when you use them over and over.

Michael's right about the long-term math. Those good containers get used for years, not just once. The real win is buying them once and watching their cost drop to almost nothing per use.
