And honestly you have to get the right kind of UV light too, not just any cheap one from the hardware store. I tried one of those pen lights and it barely showed anything, but the big blacklight flashlight my friend let me borrow lit up an old cat pee stain I'd scrubbed like five times. Now I keep one under the sink and hit the carpet with it before anyone comes over, just in case.

My grandma used to check all her hotel room sheets with a blacklight, it was wild.

And the cheap ones just don't have the right wavelength to really make those proteins glow, that’s the key. Once I got a 395nm light the difference was night and day, even old stains I thought were gone lit right up. Now I hit every rug and couch cushion before company comes, better safe than sorry with a nosy friend who gets too close to the carpet.
