Finally paid off my car loan 14 months early after finding a $200/month error in my insurance billing

I was sitting in the parking lot of a Discount Tire in Atlanta waiting for a rotation when I actually read my insurance declaration page and noticed they had me listed as a 22-year-old male instead of a 40-year-old woman, so I called and got $2,400 refunded back to my account. Has anyone else caught a simple data entry mistake that saved them big money?

So you were paying $200 extra a month just from a gender and age mixup? That's wild. I gotta ask, did you ever try to read through your policy before that day, or did it take sitting in a tire shop parking lot to finally look close? Seems like insurance companies count on us never checking the fine print.

Right, @jennifer204, found a bogus fee on my car insurance after a fender bender myself.

Yeah and the thing is, I had this weird fee pop up on my home insurance too, something about "administrative processing" which I swear wasn't there when I first signed up. I called them and they said it was standard for renewals, but when I pushed back they just kinda mumbled and took it off. Makes you wonder how much stuff is just tacked on hoping nobody notices. I ended up switching companies after that, felt like they were testing how much they could get away with.
