Good week bad week: found $40 in my coat then blew $60 on takeout

Last Tuesday I was cleaning out my winter jacket and found a $40 bill I forgot about. Felt like such a win for my grocery budget lol. But then Thursday hit and I was too wiped to cook after work. Ended up ordering pizza and garlic bread for $60 which totally wrecked my weekly meal plan. So do you count your surprise finds as income or just a happy accident? And how do you stop yourself from splurging when you find extra cash?

Nah, that $40 was already spent before you found it. That's a $60 loss.

Didnt think about it that way til I read your post @jamesf41. I always added the found money to the total and called it a win. But yeah if that $40 was already gone then you really are out the whole purchase price plus the found cash. Makes you stop and think about how we track our spending in our heads. Kinda changes how I look at finding money now honestly.
