Had to pick between fixing my car's AC or buying a cheap window unit for my bedroom

My car's AC went out last week, and the shop quote was $800. I live in Phoenix, and my bedroom gets the afternoon sun, so it was brutal. I found a small window AC unit on sale for $150. I bought the window unit, put it in my room, and now I just drive with the windows down and come home to a cold room. It feels a little silly, but my electric bill only went up $20, so I'm saving a ton. Has anyone else done something weird like this to avoid a big repair bill?

Ignore @craig.john, that's a band-aid fix.

That $800 repair is a tough pill to swallow. You're just putting off the real problem, though, and driving around Phoenix without AC is honestly dangerous in the summer heat. I'd bite the bullet and get the car fixed for safety's sake.
