I found a weird trick that cut my electric bill by $40 last month

I mean, I was always just paying the bill without really looking at the time-of-use rates from my power company. So I started running my dishwasher and laundry machine after 9 PM, when the rates drop. It felt a little silly at first, but my bill went from $145 to $105. Has anyone else tried shifting their big appliance use to off-peak hours? Did it work for you?

Switched my water heater to a timer so it only heats up at night. The thing was just sitting there keeping water hot all day while I was at work. My bill dropped by almost fifty bucks the first month, which was a huge shock. I had to check the meter reading twice because I didn't believe it. Now I'm looking at everything else that plugs in.

Our dryer runs at 10 PM now and it saved us about thirty bucks.

Seems like a lot of hassle just to save a few bucks.
