My coworker in Denver said 'budgeting is just math, not a mindset' and I think he's totally wrong. What's your take?

Yeah, your coworker in Denver sounds like someone who's never tried to skip their morning coffee run because the spreadsheet said so... The math says pack a lunch, but the mindset is what keeps you from buying that overpriced sandwich every day. It's easy to subtract numbers, way harder to subtract fun things from your life. Tell him to try sticking to a budget during the holidays and then talk to me about it just being math.

My uncle in Phoenix tried to track every penny for a year with a spreadsheet. He gave up in March because the stress of saying no to everything made him miserable. The math is easy, but sticking to it is a whole different skill.
