My grocery budget almost blew up because of a broken fridge
Honestly, it was a Tuesday night and I was putting away a big haul from the store. My fridge in the kitchen just stopped cooling. Everything was getting warm. I had about $150 worth of food, mostly meat and dairy, that was going to go bad. Tbh, my first thought was to just order takeout for a week and write it off. But I called my buddy who knows appliances, and he said to check the condenser coils. They were totally clogged with dust. I cleaned them off with a brush I had, and the fridge kicked back on after twenty minutes. I still had to toss a gallon of milk, but I saved almost everything. Ngl, I felt pretty smart not calling a repair guy right away. Has anyone else fixed a fridge problem themselves to save their grocery money?

Wait, you saved all that meat? I would have been so sure it was ruined.

Always called a pro, but you just changed my mind.

Appreciate the kind words, but honestly I'm just a home cook who reads a lot. Nancy817 had the right instinct to be worried, it's a tricky thing to pull off. In my experience, the real key is getting the temperature just right before you even start. If that first step is off, the rest doesn't matter much. It's one of those things that seems harder than it is once you know the little details.
