My old fridge in the garage finally gave out last Tuesday

It was a 15 year old Kenmore that we used for extra drinks and freezer meals. Instead of rushing to buy a new one, I checked our electric bill and realized it was costing us about $25 a month to run. We decided to just use our kitchen fridge and cancel the plan, saving us $300 a year. Has anyone else found savings by letting an old appliance go instead of replacing it?

Honestly, that's a solid win. The energy savings add up fast, and less space can mean less waste. Good call not just replacing it right away.

That Kenmore was probably running on its last legs anyway. Is saving twenty five bucks a month really worth the hassle of reorganizing your whole kitchen fridge? You might just end up buying more groceries because you have less space.

Actually went through this last year with our old fridge. We did the math and found it was using way more power than a new one would. The smaller fridge forced us to plan meals better, so we stopped wasting so much food. It was annoying for a week, but now I prefer it. The energy savings ended up being more than we thought.
