Pooled cash with neighbors for a bulk meat buy
We split a cow from a local farm and saved a ton on groceries. Anyone try something like this in their area?

Wait, you guys had a whole pig in a garage freezer? @amy974, that's a mental image. My garage is full of old bikes and a broken lawnmower, not gourmet meat. I can't even imagine fitting half a cow in there, let alone the smell if the power ever went out.

How did you all figure out the split for different cuts? We did a pig last fall and the hardest part was deciding who got the chops versus the shoulder. Honestly, having a garage freezer was a total game changer for storing it all. We ended up saving so much money, it was way cheaper than the supermarket even with the upfront cost. Tbh the quality was so much better too, totally worth the little bit of extra planning.
