Spent $22 on coffee pods every month until I did the math on a $40 grinder
Last month I finally sat down and added up what I was spending on those little coffee pods. Came out to about $22 a month, which is $264 a year, just for coffee at home. So I bought a $40 burr grinder and a bag of whole beans for $12 instead. Took me a few tries to get the grind right but now I'm spending maybe $8 a month total. The grinder paid for itself in about 10 weeks. Has anyone else done the switch from pods to whole beans and did the upfront cost feel scary at first?
I did the same math and felt like a genius for about five minutes until I remembered I'd been putting those pods in a $200 machine that's now collecting dust on my counter. My grinder journey started rough too, first batch came out like sand and my coffee tasted like a muddy puddle. My wife watched me suffer through three failed cups before she gently asked if I knew what I was doing. The upfront cost did sting a bit but watching that pod money stay in my pocket each month made it easier. Now my only real problem is I've turned into that guy who talks about grind size at parties.
