That sinking feeling when my 'budget' car repair cost me a weekend
I was in the parking lot of a Lowe's in Akron, Ohio when my alternator gave out - right after I'd bragged to a friend about cutting my car fund to $40 a month. Instead of paying a shop $600, I watched 4 YouTube videos and tried fixing it myself with a $70 part. I ended up stripping a bolt and had to call a mobile mechanic who charged me $150 just to finish the job. Anyone else ever have a DIY fix backfire and cost more than just hiring someone from the start?

Lol my friend did the exact same thing with his alternator. He watched 4 videos too then ended up snapping the tensioner bolt and had to get it towed to a shop anyway. Spent like $250 total on parts and tow plus the shop still charged him $200 to fix his mess. He couldve just paid $400 for a shop to do it right the first time and saved a whole Saturday. I swear those "budget car repair" videos make it look way too easy.
