Tried the envelope system for groceries and saved $47 in my first week

I stuffed cash into envelopes labeled 'produce' and 'meat' etc. except I forgot to label the eating out envelope and accidentally spent my restaurant money on avocados. Has anyone else gotten creative with reallocating their envelope cash mid week?

$47 saved means you spent $47 less overall, not just shifted stuff around.

Honestly "spent $47 less overall" is doing a lot of heavy lifting there Adam. Like yeah I technically saved $47 by not buying those sneakers but I also spent $47 on a bottle of whiskey I wasn't planning on buying so my wallet is still crying the same amount. The math ain't mathing when your impulse control is this bad.
