Update: I watched my sister pay for groceries with a $60 calculator app at Kroger and it made me rethink my whole budget
We were at the Kroger on High Street in Columbus on a Sunday. She pulls out her phone at the register and it's this calculator app she paid $60 for. I almost laughed. But then she showed me how she punches in every purchase as it happens and the total at the bottom of the screen is her grocery budget for the month. She had $14 left after a full cart. I've been doing the envelope thing with actual cash and always mess up the math somewhere around the third trip. So I asked her about it and she said the app is just a calculator, you could do it with a free one, she just paid for the no-ads version. Anyway I set up a plain free calculator on my phone the same way that night. Two trips in and I'm already caught spending $23 more than I thought on snacks I grab without looking. Has anyone else tried just tracking it live like this instead of waiting to check the bank app? I keep wondering if the live number is what actually stops me or if I'll get used to it and ignore it too.
Is it really that deep though? You found out you spend 23 bucks on snacks you don't even notice buying, that's just life. The live number might work for a month then you'll probably tune it out like everything else.
