A friend who journals said my collections were just dumping grounds

I had this massive list of books I wanted to read, like 80 titles, and I just kept adding to it without ever actually reading any of them. She pointed out that my collections section was turning into a graveyard of good intentions, not a tool I actually used. So I cut it down to just the next 5 books I actually planned to buy from the library, and now I actually mark them off when I finish. I still keep a separate scratch paper list for the long term stuff, but my journal feels way less cluttered. Has anyone else had to totally rework a page because someone called out that it wasn't functional?

Honestly the "graveyard of good intentions" line hits hard but I think your friend was wrong to call it out. Having 80 books in a list is functional if it keeps you hyped to read instead of forgetting everything you want to check out. My collections are cluttered as hell and that's the point they remind me of stuff I might never find again.

Yeah but I dunno, the graveyard line makes sense to me. I had a page of movie recs that just kept growing and I never touched any of them. It felt more like a chore than something fun. Cutting it down to stuff I actually had access to or planned to watch that week made a huge difference. Now my collections actually work for me instead of just taking up space. Different strokes for different folks I guess.
