Am I the only one who used to overdecorate every page?

I spent like 6 months doing full on art spreads with washi tape and drawings before each month. Then I saw this girl at a coffee shop in Portland who just used a black pen and a ruler, and her whole notebook was packed with actual tasks and notes. That really made me realize I was spending more time making it look pretty than actually using it to organize my life. Has anyone else simplified and felt like they got more done?

Crashed my first bullet journal so hard that I ended up drawing little vines and flowers around every single entry for a whole month. Then I lost the pen I used for the vines and spent like three days trying to match the exact shade of green instead of just using a different one. idk, I think I just liked the feeling of being creative more than actually staying organized.

Oh man, @lopez.quinn, that green pen quest is 100% something I would have done back then. The whole "liked the feeling of being creative" thing really hit home for me. What finally clicked was when I started treating my journal like a tool, not a project. I cut back to just a monthly spread with a list of tasks, and a weekly layout where I write down whatever actually needs to get done that day. Now I use maybe three colors max and no stickers or drawings, and my bujo actually works for me instead of being a distraction. The weird thing is I don't miss the pretty pages at all because I'm getting way more done. If you're thinking of switching it up, try leaving a blank page for doodles or random notes so you still get that creative outlet without it taking over everything else.

Three days to match a green pen" absolutely sent me. That is the most painfully relatable thing I've ever read. I once drove to three different stores trying to find the exact shade of purple I used in my first journal, and ended up buying a pack of cheap markers that weren't even close. The dedication we had to the aesthetic was ridiculous, but it felt so important at the time. Did you ever find that perfect green pen again, or did you just give up and switch colors?
