Noticed a lot of people using their bullet journal like a scrapbook and then getting frustrated when it doesn't help them get things done.

I see it all over social media. The focus is on making each weekly spread a piece of art, with washi tape, watercolor headers, and full-page illustrations. That's a cool hobby, but it's not the system. The original point was rapid logging and migration to actually manage your tasks and thoughts. My cousin showed me her book, and she said, 'I spent 3 hours on Monday just setting up the week and then didn't write a single task.' If the decoration is stopping you from using the core method, maybe that's the problem. Has anyone else had to scale back the art to make their journal functional again?

Yeah, I had to stop with the fancy pens and just use a basic ballpoint. The whole point is to get stuff out of your head, not make a gallery. Now my spreads are ugly but they actually work.

My own bullet journal is just a sad list of things I forgot to do, so @harperg76 is onto something with the ugly but useful method.

Remember watching my friend try to plan her wedding in a fancy journal. She got so stuck on making the guest list page look perfect that she never actually sent the invites. Sometimes the tool just needs to be a tool.
