Realized I've filled 12 journals in 7 years. Didn't even know I had that many.

Read somewhere that keeping a journal is like leaving notes for your future self. Twelve in seven years sounds like a solid collection of memories. Did your handwriting change a lot over that time?

noaht15, that's an interesting way to put it. I think the handwriting change is actually one of the less noticed things about keeping journals. One thing I've noticed in mine is not just the handwriting, but the paper itself gives clues. The first few were in cheap spiral notebooks from the drugstore, but around year three I switched to a nicer bound kind, and the paper quality is totally different. You can feel when you were more careful or when you were just rushing to get things down.

Wait, twelve notebooks in seven years? That's like... barely two a year. I thought you meant twelve full journals or something. My mind went to like, that's barely a hundred pages a year if you're using thick notebooks. I'm sitting here with twenty from the last four years and feeling called out. But yeah, the handwriting thing is real. My early ones are all tight and neat like I was trying to be a calligrapher or something. Now it's just chicken scratch when I'm tired and I can barely read my own notes from last week.
