Serious question, I read that the original bullet journal method only used three core symbols
I was looking at the official bullet journal website last night and found a page about the basics. It said the first version from 2013 only had a dot for tasks, a circle for events, and a dash for notes. I was really surprised because my own journal has like ten different colors and maybe twenty symbols for things like water intake or mood. It made me think about how much the hobby has grown past its simple start. Has anyone else tried going back to just those three basic marks for a month or something?

Actually tried the three symbol method last month and it was a total disaster. My whole system fell apart because a simple dot doesn't tell me if a task is for work, home, or my side project. Forgot to call the dentist twice because it just looked like any other dot. That basic setup might work for someone with a super simple life, but it doesn't cut it for tracking real responsibilities. Adding a few colors and extra symbols is just being practical, not overcomplicating things.

Tried color coding once, lost my pens constantly.

Remember when my cat knocked over my entire pen cup and I found highlighters under the fridge six months later.
