That $40 Leuchtturm notebook I bought was a total waste of money

Everyone raves about the ghost-free pages but my ink bleeds through on page 3 with a standard Pilot G2. What cheap notebook actually holds up to daily pen use without leaking?

Read a review from some pen testing blog that put the basic Moleskine Cahier through hell with fountain pens and it held up better than their $30 notebooks. Picked one up for like $8 and honestly it works fine with my G2s, no bleed through even on the back of the page. The paper is slightly thinner but the coating does its job. Also heard that the Exceed brand at Walmart is supposedly the same factory as Leuchtturm for like a third of the price. Not sure if that's true but might be worth a shot if you want that hardcover feel without the premium.

Resisted the Exceed hype for way too long just to admit my $8 notebook is now my favorite.
