Tried monthly spreads vs weekly logs and found my groove

I spent 3 months doing these elaborate monthly spreads with mood trackers and habit grids, but I kept skipping days. Switched to simple weekly logs where I just rapid-log my tasks and events, and now I actually fill in my journal every single day. Has anyone else found a simpler layout that just clicks better than the fancy ones?

86% of New Year's resolutions fail by February, right? I think that exact same thing happens with journaling when people get obsessed with the setup. I noticed at my climbing gym that the people with the fancy gear and route planning books climb way less than the folks who just show up with chalk and shoes. The fancy stuff tricks you into thinking you're being productive when you're actually just avoiding the real work of doing it.

Oh man, I went through almost the exact same thing! I spent way too long making those monthly spreads with the little color coded boxes and mood trackers, and it looked so pretty but I hated filling them in. The "skipping days" part really hit home because that was me too - I'd miss a week and then feel guilty about all those empty spaces. I switched to a super stripped down weekly log where I just write the date and list my tasks and notes in bullets. Now I actually look forward to my journal instead of treating it like homework. The key for me was realizing that a functional system I actually use beats a beautiful one I ignore every single time. Sometimes the basic approach is just the better fit, you know?

That climbing gym comparison is spot on. I see the same thing with people who buy all these fancy kitchen gadgets but then just order takeout every night. The gear becomes the hobby instead of the actual thing you're trying to do.
