A mentor told me to stop selling and start listening - here's what happened

I was pitching my consulting services to a potential client in Austin last month and getting nowhere. After 20 minutes of me talking about my process, she stopped me and said 'you don't even know what I need yet.' That hit me hard. I changed my whole approach to just asking questions first for the first 10 minutes. Now I close about 1 out of every 3 conversations instead of 1 out of 10. Has anyone else had a client call them out like that and totally change your sales method?

Respectfully disagree, listening alone won't close deals without showing value.

Man that's rough but kind of a gift in disguise right? It's crazy how sometimes you need someone to just hit you with the truth like that.
