Added a simple sticky note to my desk and my sales calls got way better
I was struggling with cold calls for my landscaping side hustle. I kept rambling and losing people after the first 30 seconds. So I wrote the customer's biggest problem on a sticky note and put it right on my phone. Now I just lead with that one line instead of my whole pitch. Last week I booked 4 new clients just by asking 'are you tired of your grass dying by August?' It sounds dumb but it forced me to shut up and listen. Has anyone else tried a single sentence hook that worked way better than a script?

Yeah but grass dying in August is actually normal dormancy not necessarily a problem they can fix.

That reminds me of an article I read about how the best salespeople talk less than half the time on calls. @tara_patel makes a good point about dormancy though - if you're asking about dying grass you have to make sure that's actually their pain point first. Still, I like the sticky note idea for keeping yourself focused on their problem instead of your own talking points.
