Lost a client over a single typo in a quote last month
I was in my home office in Austin putting together a $12k proposal for a retail chain when I sent it out without proofreading. They wrote back pointing out the wrong unit price on the shelving line, and the buyer said it made them doubt our whole operation. I spent the next week building a checklist template with mandatory double checks for any document over $5k. Has anyone else had one small error tank a deal, and what did you do to win back that trust?

My favorite part is the buyer making it sound like a typo on a shelf price means your guys are gonna forget to bolt the doors on or something. I mean, I once sent a quote with the wrong labor rate and the customer just laughed and asked if it came with a free oil change. The trust thing is overblown, honestly. Double-checking is smart, but some clients are just looking for any excuse to bail. That $12k chain probably would've nickel-and-dimed you on every change order for the next year anyway.
