Question about losing a big client and how to rebuild

Last month I lost a client that made up about 40% of my small consulting business here in Portland. They just said they were going with a cheaper option and that was it. I felt pretty lost for a week or two, honestly. I decided to reach out to some past clients I hadn't talked to in a while and see if they needed anything. Ended up getting two new projects from old contacts that together cover about 30% of what I lost. Has anyone else had a big drop like that and found a way to bounce back pretty quick?

I read something recently about how most small businesses that lose a big client actually end up more stable in the long run because they stop putting all their eggs in one basket. Sounds like you accidentally did exactly that by reaching out to your old contacts. It's crazy how fast things can turn around just by asking the right people at the right time. A lot of consultants I've heard about take months to recover from a 40% hit, so three weeks is pretty impressive. Good on you for not just panicking and going after any random work either.

Did you factor in the mental toll of that transition?

Whoa. You got lucky this time but diversification beats scrambling.
