Unpopular opinion: I quit chasing new customers and focused on the ones I already have

Honestly, my revenue went up faster when I started sending personal thank you notes instead of blasting more ads.

I read this Harvard Business Review piece ages ago that said getting a new customer costs five times more than keeping an old one. That stuck with me because I was always running after shiny new leads. Your thank you note thing is exactly it, it's that personal touch that makes people stick around. They feel like you actually see them as a person, not just a sale. It turns them into people who will come back and tell their friends. That organic growth from happy customers is way more powerful than another ad buy. It just builds a stronger business over time.

Yeah there's that whole thing about customer lifetime value, like a study from Bain & Company that said a 5% boost in customer retention can bump profits by over 25%. It's wild how the math actually works out like that. Focusing on the people already buying from you just makes the whole business way less shaky. It's not as flashy as landing a big new client, but it builds something that lasts.
