Why does nobody talk about using voicemail drops for cold outreach

I was struggling with cold calling for months and barely getting anyone to pick up. Then I tried sending a quick voicemail instead of leaving a generic message. I recorded a 30 second script that mentioned a specific problem their company had based on their website. It took me about 20 tries to get the tone right, but now I get callbacks from about 1 out of every 5 voicemails I leave. Has anyone else tried this approach or found a different way to get responses from cold leads?

Voicemail drops can work but 1 in 5 seems like a stretch unless you're picking easy targets.

If I'm being honest, my success rate on voicemail drops is more like 1 in 20. Mostly because I forget what I was gonna say halfway through and just hang up.
