Am I the only one who got burned by a handshake deal on a commercial lease?
I rented a spot for my print shop in Portland on a verbal agreement with the landlord, thinking we were cool. After 8 months, he sold the building and the new owner jacked my rent up by $1200 a month with 30 days' notice. I learned the hard way that without a signed lease, you have zero protection. Has anyone else had a business deal go south because you trusted a person instead of a contract?

what happened" makes it sound like a big deal. was it really that bad or just a normal apartment issue? landlords hear complaints all the time.

Lol he basically shrugged and said "that's city living." Like no dude, that's a busted pipe flooding my closet. He sent a guy three days later who just slapped some tape on it.
