Appreciation post: My lawyer saved me from a huge mistake with a supplier contract last Tuesday
I was about to sign a deal with a new parts supplier in Dallas, and their standard agreement had a clause saying any dispute had to be settled in their home state, which would have cost me a fortune to fight. My attorney caught it during our 30 minute review and got it changed to neutral arbitration. Has anyone else had a contract review turn up a nasty surprise like that?

I used to skip lawyer reviews on smaller deals to save money. A boilerplate service contract cost me six months of headaches over a vague "materials fee" clause that kept going up. Now I get everything looked at, it's cheaper in the long run. What did your review end up costing, if you don't mind me asking?

That "cheaper in the long run" part is SO true. My review was a flat $500. It felt like a lot for a simple vendor agreement at the time. But they caught a sneaky auto-renewal clause that would have locked me in for three years. That $500 saved me from a contract costing thousands to get out of. Never skipping that step again.

Yeah that "cheaper in the long run" idea hits different when you factor in the time and stress you save too. Getting a contract fixed later means meetings, calls, and that awful feeling in your gut for weeks. Paying the lawyer upfront isn't just about money, it's buying peace of mind so you can actually focus on your work.
