A tricky miter on a built-in bookcase ate up my whole afternoon

I was fitting the crown molding on a floor-to-ceiling unit, and the corner where the wall met the sloped ceiling just would not close cleanly. What should have been a 30 minute job turned into 4 hours of test cuts and shimming before I got it right. Has anyone else found a reliable method for dealing with those compound angles on tall cases?

My last one needed a digital angle finder to get it right.

Honestly, a coping saw would've saved you hours on that cut.

Man, you're totally right about the tool. But honestly, the real time-saver is just marking the cut line clearly with a sharp pencil first. A lot of folks rush that step and then fight the saw the whole way.
