Am I the only one who switched from a pin nailer to a 23ga headless for face frames on maple?
I tried the headless on a kitchen build in Spokane last month and got almost no splitting where the pin kept blowing out the grain, but the heads still show a bit on fill. Curious what glue and clamp setup you all run if you've tried this on hard maple.
Man, my first run with headless on maple went so bad I almost went back to finish nails and a prayer. What saved me was switching to Titebond III with just a thin bead, then clamping every joint for a full 30 minutes instead of rushing it. The glue line matters more than the pin size on hard maple, since the wood barely moves once it sets. I still get a tiny dimple on fill now and then, but a wet rag and a light sand takes care of it.
