Dovetail saw kickback sent my chisel flying across the shop

I was cutting dovetails on a curly maple drawer front yesterday and the saw grabbed so bad it yanked the whole piece off the bench, my chisel hit the wall behind me. Turns out my saw plate was dull on one edge and I never checked it before starting. Anyone else had a tool fail mid-cut like this, or am I just the lucky one this week?
