Guy in the shop next to mine said he stopped using pocket screws on face frames, and now I'm second guessing 6 months of work
I was grabbing coffee at the supply place on Grand Ave in Portland and ran into a guy who runs a two man shop down the street. He told me he gave up pocket screws on face frames because two of his cabinets split at the joint after a dry winter, and he switched to biscuits with glue and clamps. I've built maybe 40 face frames with pocket screws in the past 6 months and now I'm laying in bed wondering how many of those are ticking time bombs. My shop stays around 35% humidity year round with a dehumidifier, so maybe I'm fine, but I never really thought about what happens when they leave my shop and sit in a dry house. Any of you had a pocket screw joint actually fail on a face frame, or is this guy just unlucky?
