Hit 200 tape measures lost and people think I'm sloppy, but here's why

Everyone brags about keeping a tape measure for years. I've gone through 200 in 15 years, and I'm not sorry. Losing them means I actually finish jobs, because I buy a fresh one each Monday and retire every old one to my truck instead of digging through sawdust. The number shocked me when I counted last week, but it's cheaper than the hour I waste hunting one down. Anyone else treat tools as disposable on purpose?

200 tape measures in 15 years comes out to over 13 a year, which is basically one every three weeks. That's not losing tools, that's a system of buying your way out of a five minute search. I get being in a hurry on a jobsite, but I've never met a guy who couldn't find his tape in the time it takes to grab a coffee. Sounds less like a strategy and more like an excuse to never clean up your workspace.
