Just realized my old method of flushing glue joints was making things worse.

Over at a shop in Denver last month, a guy showed me he just wipes with a damp rag instead of blasting with air, and my miters stopped getting those cloudy gaps. Any of you guys switch your glue clean-up method and see better results?

Less mess and way cleaner edges" - see, @bell.felix, I get why people say that, but I actually went the other direction and had better luck. I started using a tiny brush with water to wet the joint before clamping, then a dry rag after. The damp rag thing always pushed glue deeper into the grain for me, especially on oak. Blasting with air after a quick wipe is still my go-to, just gotta angle it so the glue blows out instead of into the joint. I tried the damp rag method for about a month and my miters looked worse, not better.

Wipe with a damp rag instead of blowing it all over the place. I did that switch last year and my joints stopped looking like crap. Less mess and way cleaner edges, just gotta be quick before the glue sets.

Interesting that you mention the air blast after the wipe. Do you find the air pushes any remaining dampness into the joint, or does it dry fast enough to not matter? I ask because I tried that combo once on cherry and ended up with raised grain where the moisture sat too long. Seemed like the rag always left enough water to swell the fibers. Also, what brand of glue are you using? Some of the darker stuff seems to set slower and gives you more time to clean up.
