Back in 2004, I was breaking down plywood in a client's garage near Tacoma when I knocked a 2x4 off the upper storage rack. It landed right on the corner of their brand new quartz countertop, chipped a half inch piece clean off, about $700 worth of damage. The homeowner walked in ten minutes later with coffee, saw the chip, and just looked at me without saying anything. I offered to pay for the repair on the spot and take the blame, which he appreciated way more than any excuse I could have made.
