The finisher in Grand Rapids told me my glue lines were too tight, and he was right
I used to crank my bar clamps down as hard as I could on every glue up, figured tight meant strong. Then a finisher named Dale in Grand Rapids looked at a maple face frame I brought him and pointed at the squeeze out, said too much glue gets pushed out and starves the joint, plus the wood cups. I started backing off to just enough pressure to close the gap and wipe the bead, and my panels have stayed flat since. Last month I ran 14 doors off a single glue up and not one shifted. Anybody else get set straight by a finisher instead of another builder?
