Tried a router sled for flattening instead of hand planes

Had to flatten a big walnut slab for a client's dining table in Nashville. Spent half a Sunday setting up the router sled and got it dead flat in 20 minutes. Hand planes would have taken me twice as long and I still would have had low spots. Anybody else ditch the hand tools for power on big glue-ups?

Oh buddy, hand planes still have a place for dialing in that final finish, but you're absolutely right that a sled is way faster for getting it flat.

Sled for roughing out, plane for the satisfying part.

Bet you still had to sand like crazy after the sled though, right?
