Warning: a guy at the woodworking show in Portland told me my drawer slides were on backwards, and he was right
I brushed him off until my third customer in a month complained the drawers felt gritty, then I pulled one and saw the slide was mounted on the wrong face the whole time. Anyone else had a stranger at a show or supply counter catch a mistake you'd been making for months?
The thing is, a stranger at a show telling you your slides are backwards isn't the same as you figuring it out yourself. I'd rather trust my own eyes than some guy who walked up to my booth and decided to give me free advice. Gritty drawers can come from a lot of things, sawdust packed in the tracks, cheap slides, a cabinet that's not square, so blaming the way you mounted them feels like a stretch. If it took three customer complaints and a random guy to make you pull a drawer, that's less about the stranger being right and more about you not checking your own work. I've had plenty of people at shows tell me I was doing something wrong and most of the time they were just guessing or trying to sell me something. Sure, once in a while they land on something real, but giving them credit for catching a mistake you should have caught months ago feels backwards to me.
