Warning: I was about to scrap my dovetail jig until a 1970s manual proved me wrong
I had my mind made up that my old Porter-Cable jig was too sloppy for drawer boxes, and I almost sold it on Craigslist for $60. Then a retired cabinetmaker named Dale showed me a line in a 1974 woodworking manual: the bit needs to sit proud of the guide bushing by about 1/32 inch or you get tearout every time. I reset that gap in my jig last Saturday and my test cuts came out clean on the first try. Has anyone else here had a tool written off in their head until a cheap manual or old timer set them straight?
