Customer's complaint about my splices made me switch methods

Had a guy last month tell me my compression connectors looked sloppy after I finished his whole house. I was using a standard crimper for everything, pretty standard stuff. He pointed out some had a slight gap and said he'd done telecom work in the 90s and swore by a hex crimp tool instead. Tried it on my next job and honestly the connections feel way more solid, less chance of a callback too. Anyone else ever get feedback from a customer that actually made your work better?

My buddy Greg had a lady tell him his caulk lines looked like a three-year-old did them, and he switched to a nicer gun. He still thanks her for the reality check every time he gets a clean bead.

I used to think any caulk gun would do, but trying a smooth rod model completely changed my mind.

...and see that's exactly the kind of thing I mean, you get so set in your ways and then someone with fresh eyes makes you realize you've been making it harder on yourself. I had a guy tell me my drywall tape was bubbling because I wasn't wetting the joint compound right, just straight up said it looked amateur hour. Man that stung at first but I tried his method where you dampen the tape first and now I never get those stupid bubbles creeping up after I paint. It's funny how the customers who complain the most sometimes end up teaching you the best tricks if you just swallow your pride and listen. I still think about that guy every time I finish a smooth flat wall and feel a little grateful he called me out. That feedback loop is gold if you don't let your ego get in the way.
