Got chewed out by a homeowner after I ran coax through a return vent
I was doing a new build in Austin last month and figured the return plenum was a quick path to the media closet - turns out there's code against that and the guy had photos of the whole thing. Anyone else run into inspectors or homeowners who catch stuff like this?

You mentioned "the return plenum was a quick path" but that's actually not how it works in new builds. Plenums are part of the HVAC system, so there are specific fire and air quality codes that stop you from running anything through them. I learned that the hard way years ago when an inspector flagged my work on a remodel. These days I always check the local codes before I start - they catch stuff like this because it's a safety hazard.
