I just passed 500 cable terminations and I think we overthink the whole process
I hit my 500th termination this past Thursday on a job in an older building downtown. The popular thing on here seems to be buying those expensive crimpers and testing every single run twice. But honestly, after 500 terminations with the same $40 Klein tools I have had for years, I have not had a single callback or failure. I am not saying cheap out on tools but I think we get sold on needing pro grade gear when the real skill is just taking your time and checking your pairs visually before you crimp. I still test everything with a basic toner, nothing fancy. Has anyone else noticed their failure rate stayed the same when they downgraded from the expensive stuff?

Wait, you still don't test with a proper certifier though right?

Oh yeah, @claire_hart53, I just went with a recommended DIY kit from a local shop and it worked out fine. Saved a bunch and got the same result.

Yeah, are you actually getting any kind of certificate or official stamp with those DIY kits? I'd be nervous about that part too, it feels risky not having a pro back it up.
