Pro tip: plumbers putty on a wall plate is not the same as silicone, and I keep seeing it on new builds
Did a job in Mesa last Tuesday and the plate behind the TV came off with two fingers because someone used plumbers putty around the coax. That stuff never sets up, so it just oozes when the wall warms up and the plate slides loose. I see it on maybe 1 in 5 new builds where the low volt guy ran out of the right stuff and grabbed whatever was in the truck. If you want a seal that actually holds, use the right caulk or a foam gasket, and save the putty for drains. What are you all using on exterior penetrations that stays put in 110 degree heat?
