Rant: I swore by stapling my drops to the stud every 12 inches until a guy in Mesa asked me one question
I have been stapling coax to the side of studs every foot for close to nine years now because that is how the first crew lead I ever had showed me, and I never once had a callback on it, so I figured it was fine. Last Tuesday I was roughing in a two story in Mesa and an older installer from another crew stopped to watch me for a minute while he was waiting on his helper. He did not say anything rude, he just pointed at one of my staples and asked me if I had ever pulled a wall open after a summer in a house like that. I said no. He said he had, three times, and every single pull had a nick in the jacket from a staple that got hammered too deep on a hot day when the wood was soft. That messed with my head because I always thought tight meant secure. I went back the next morning and re did about forty staples on that job with a looser swing and a plastic clip on every third one, and it honestly took me maybe twenty extra minutes for the whole house. Now I am wondering how many of my old jobs from five or six years back have a slow water leak waiting to short out behind some drywall. Any of you ever get called back on something you did years ago and had to own it?

Man, that question would mess with my head too, but you did the right thing going back and fixing it the next day. I started using those plastic clips on every other staple a few years back and it saved me a ton of worry, plus they go in way faster than I expected.
