Rant: spent $180 on a cable certification tester and it saved my butt on a 40-drop job in Mesa
Took a job rewiring a small office in Mesa last spring, 40 drops, older building with god knows what behind the walls. The cheap $15 tester said everything passed. The $180 unit caught a swapped pair on run 27 and a split that was passing continuity but failing at length. Owner had already signed off. If I'd trusted the cheap one I'd have been back there on my own dime pulling that run. What's the cheapest tester you all trust for gigabit runs?
Ha, meanwhile I'm over here with a tester I bought used off a guy on craigslist, pretty sure it's held together with electrical tape and hope. The fact that your 15 dollar one said everything passed is wild though. Reminds me of when I trusted a cheap stud finder and put a shelf right into a water line, so yeah, I get it. The swapped pair on run 27 would've bit you for sure, that length fail is sneaky too. Might be time for me to stop being cheap before I eat a callback like that.
