That crawlspace in Austin where I found a raccoon living inside the cable bundle

Spent 45 minutes trying to figure out why the signal kept dropping before that little guy poked his head out and now I always bang on the conduit first to scare off any squatters before I start working.

Did you catch that thing on the news a couple months back about the raccoon that climbed into a Comcast box in Dallas and practically shut down the whole neighborhood's internet? I swear they're getting smarter about finding these spots. The radio trick is genius though, I read a study once that said raccoons hate human voices because they associate them with danger, so talk radio probably sounds like a bunch of angry people who might chase them off. I've also heard mothballs work but man that smell lingers forever. Just glad you didn't end up with chewed fiber lines, those are a nightmare to splice.

Honestly that raccoon was probably getting better service than the customer at that point. Tbh you should consider yourself lucky it was just peeking out and not chewing through everything like a little furry wire murderer. Ngl that bang-on-the-conduit trick is probably the most useful thing I've picked up from this site in months. At least you didn't have to deal with the smell of raccoon droppings baking in the Texas heat for a week after.

Yeah i had a similar thing with a possum last year in my attic. Tried every deterrent i could find online and ended up just putting a radio up there playing talk radio 24/7. Worked like a charm after three days they just left on their own. The bang on the conduit thing is good but sometimes you gotta get creative with what spooks them. I also sealed up the entry point with some heavy duty hardware cloth after they were gone.
