The time I found a pet snake in a drop ceiling

Back in my first year, I was pulling cable in a basement apartment and saw a weird coil in the ceiling tile dust. I poked it with my fish tape and a three foot long corn snake fell out onto my shoulder. The tenant said 'Oh, that's Steve, he got out a month ago.' Now I always shine my headlamp around for a full minute before sticking my hands up there. Anyone else had a surprise pet turn up on a job?

That's a wild story but man, I would not be that chill about a snake dropping on me. I've pulled some nasty stuff out of ceilings, mostly dead mice and old insulation. A live pet up there is a whole other level of weird. The tenant just shrugging it off is the craziest part to me.

Read a story once about a plumber finding a pet parrot in a wall. @roberts95 is right, the tenant's chill reaction is the weirdest part. Makes you wonder what else people just live with.
